Have questions?
What is massage and how do I know I need it?
People come in for massage treatments for many different reasons. Some come because they need to relax or to work out sore spots or tension, others come to help rehabilitate after injury. Massage can help in many different ways from decreasing your tension, swelling, stress, to increasing your range of motion, relaxation, joint mobility etc...
If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask, either email hannahdevosrmt@gmail.com or you can reach me by phone at 519 350 7966.
What can I expect from my treatment?
If this is your first treatment with me, we will go over you health history (form that was sent prior to appointment), and over your goals of treatment. Based on what I get from my intake, assessment will be done. Once everything is complete, I will go through treatment with you and what you can expect from treatment. Then after the massage we will go through homecare.
Example: you booked a 60 minute massage treatment for the first time with me. As part of that 60 minutes we will go through health history, assessment, massage and then homecare. If this isn't your first time more time will be spent on the table. This all varies on the person and what they are in for. If it is your second time in we will do a quick review of last treatment and if there is anything you would like to do differently.
What age groups do you accept?
Anyone is able to receive a massage treatment as long as they can understand and verbally consent to treatment. If the person is non-verbal or incapable, we do require a substitute decision maker (legal guardian or support worker).
As for children receiving treatment as long as they are able to understand and consent they can receive treatment. If they can not consent or understand treatment a parent or guardian must be present. A parent/guardian can be present during treatment if the child feels more comfortable even if they understand and can consent to treatment.
What I recommend if you want your child to receive a massage is to educate yourself about massage, whether that be going to the CMTO website (College of Massage Therapists of Ontario), or to talk to a registered massage therapist. Massage can seem very intimidating to some people, especially a child so going through what they can expect from treatment can help them feel more comfortable. Every child is different and understands things differently so the communication between the RMT, parent/guardian and the child is key.
